처키와 듀스는 15살 이후 단짝 친구로, 롱아일랜드 주 프로비던스라는 지역에서 자잘한 강도짓을 하는 건달들이다. 강도 사건으로 교도소에서 복역하던 중, 싸움을 잘하는 처키의 모습을 인상 깊게 본 범죄 조직 간부 제리 위메트는 이들에게 제안을 한다. 바로 프로비던스에서 가장 높은 곳에 있는 남자, 레이먼드 패트리아카와 다른 범죄자들의 재산을 은닉해둔 금고를 털자는 것. 이들은 돈이 없어져도 경찰에 신고하지 못할 거라고 한다. 원래 패트리어카 밑에서 일하던 제리 위메트는 자신이 이탈리아 혈통이 아니라서 진정한 조직의 일원이 되지 못하자 앙심을 품고 패트리어카의 금고를 털기로 한 것이다. 그러면서 처키와 듀스에게 각각 7만 달러라는 거금을 제안하는데... 듀스의 여자 친구 캐린은 듀스를 말려보지만 가장 위험한 마피아 보스의 금고 털이 범행 준비는 이미 시작됐다.
