옛날 먼 곳에 두 개의 땅이 있었다. 세계는 내지와 외지로 나뉘었다. 사람들은 저주의 매개체인 '바깥 존재'들이 사는 외지 두려워했다. 어느 날, 인간이 살고 있는 내지의 경계에서, 그런 존재는 버려진 시체 더미 위에서 소녀를 발견한다.소녀는 자신의 이름이 시바라고 말하며 자신을 발견한 존재에게 "선생님"이라고 부르며 애정을 표현한다. 이 이야기는 낮과 밤을 가르는 흐릿한 황혼 속에 머물러 있는 두 사람의 이야기다.
