수줍음 많은 젊은 여성, 잔은 어머니와 함께 살면서 놀이공원에서 야간 청소부로 일한다. 자유분방한 어머니는 잔이 남자들과 어울리기를 원하지만 그는 자기만의 세계에 빠져 있다. 그러던 잔이 사랑에 빠진다. 그가 첫눈에 반한 상대는 환한 불빛을 뿜어내면서 힘차게 돌아가는 놀이기구다. 잔이 거대한 금속성 놀이기구를 성적 대상으로 여기게 된 이유는 정확히 알기 어렵지만, 확실한 건 그가 사물 성애(object sexuality)자라는 사실이다. 잔은 자신이 ‘점보’라고 이름 붙인 이 대형 놀이기구와 다정한 대화를 하며 육체적인 애정까지 나눈다. 하지만 잔의 성적 취향은 그를 진심으로 사랑하는 어머니에게조차 인정받지 못한다. 잔은 진정 변태인가? 비정상인가?
