The film captures the experience of the Brazilian vice-consul in Hamburg between 1938 and 1942, at the height of the Nazi regime and during the first years of the World War II. Using his writings from that time, as well as archive pictures, documents, survivors testimonies, and an unpublished interview with him, the film reveals new biographical aspects of one of the greatest writers in Brazilian history.

"셸"은 스코틀랜드 하이랜드 지방의 외딴 주유소에서 성장한 십대 소녀 셸의 이야기를 다룬 일종의 로드무비다. 엄마는 셸이 어릴 때 집을 나갔고, 셸은 죽어가는 아버지를 돌보며 살고 있다. 십대가 된 셸은 아름답지만 고립된 이곳에 갇혔다는 생각을 떨쳐버릴 수가 없다. 셸은 쇠락한 주유소를 운영하고 병든 아버지를 돌보면서 종종 동네의 한 정비사와 침대에서 뒹굴며 시간을 흘려 보낸다. 트럭이 지나가며 집을 덜걱 거리게 만들 때마다 셸의 인생이 트럭과 함께 스쳐 지나가 버리는 것 같다. 어느 날 한 세일즈맨이 차에 주유를 하기 위해 잠시 멈추는데, 셸은 그를 통해 이곳이 아닌 다른 세상을 엿보게 되고 그로 인해 셸은 떠나고 싶은 욕망에 시달린다. 영화는 스코틀랜드 하이랜드에서 촬영됐다. 스코틀랜드 출신의 유망한 배우 로르나 크레이그가 셸 역을, "런던에서 브라이튼까지"의 샌디 모튼이 셸의 아버지 역을 맡았다. "붉은 거리"의 폴 히긴스가 세일즈맨 역으로 출연한다. 강렬하면서도 답답한 분위기의 영화 "셸"은 "황무지"와 "파리, 텍사스" 같은 미국 고전영화에 바치는 오마주 같은 영화다. (2012년 제17회 부산국제영화제)

Sven arrives in nowadays Auschwitz to do his civil service at the memorial. He encounters unfriendliness, especially by Stanislaw Krzeminski, the 85 year old KZ-survivor, and Krzysztof Lanuszewski, brother of his early love affair Ania. Even his boss Herold, the places manager, does little to help Sven familiarize. But when problems accumulate Sven realises that he already has become involved.

Sonja is struggling to deal with her parent separation, and find her feelings for her best friend might not just be a phase.
