유창한 프랑스어 실력에 볼테르를 숭배하는 오스카는 평소 한 여성을 가장 잘 나타내주는 것은 손이라고 생각하는 감성적이며 인정 많은 청년이다. 추수감사절을 맞아 기차를 타고 학교에서 집으로 가던 그는 단짝 친구에게 이번에 집으로 돌아가서 행할 비밀스런 계획에 대해 털어놓는다. 그 계획은 바로 자신의 진정한 사랑을 쟁취하겠다는 것. 하지만 이 계획엔 약간의 문제가 있었다. 오스카의 진정한 사랑이란 바로 그의 새어머니 이브였던 것이다. 오스카는 일중독에 빠진 아버지보다 자신이 그녀의 대상으로 더 잘 어울린다고 확신하고 그녀의 마음을 얻기 위해 계획을 실행에 옮긴다.
