츠야마 나오는 프로 권투선수가 되는 것이 꿈이다. 하지만 어린시절 사고로 인해 의족을 달고 있는 장애인인 그에게 일본권투협회에서는 정식 선수자격증 발급하는 것을 곤란해한다. 결국 그가 선택한 길은 연고도 없는 필리핀까지 가서 국제선수자격증을 따오는 것이다. 언어와 문화가 다른 곳인 필리핀 변두리에서 허름한 복싱클럽 원장을 하고 있는 루디를 만난다. 나오는 한때는 잘나가는 선수였지만 지금은 은퇴하고 아마추어들을 육성을 하는 그를 보며 어린시절 아버지에게서 받지 못했던 사랑을 느낀다. 한편 각자의 사정으로 훈련을 하고 있는 동료들과 함께 우정을 쌓으면서 모두 절박함이 있음을 깨닫는다.
