500년 전, 손오공이 피운 소란으로 인간 세상에 큰 불꽃이 떨어지고 이로 인해 홍해아가 태어나게 된다. 그 후 500년 뒤, 모험을 떠나는 손오공 일행의 앞길을 홍해아가 막아선다. 어머니에게 보물을 찾아주려는 홍해아가 삼장법사를 노리고 그들을 습격한 것. 결국 삼장법사는 홍해아에게 납치되고 만다. 이에 손오공은 스승을 구하고 삼계 최고의 실력자를 가리기 위해 홍해아를 찾아 나서는데…
