루앤 존슨(Louanne Johnson : 미쉘 파이퍼 분)은 9년간의 미해병대 복무를 정리한 뒤 영어교사로 전업했다. 그녀는 캘리포니아 북부의 한 고등학교에서 정교사 자격증을 취득하기 위한 과정으로 일종의 교생 실습을 받던 중 아카데미 클래스(문제아 학급)의 담임으로 배정받는다. 이 아카데미 클래스는 그녀의 인생을 완전히 바꾸어 놓은 교육 현장이었으며, 그녀 또한 문제아 학생들의 인생을 영원히 바꾸어 놓았다. 그녀가 담임맡은 학생들은 하나같이 어두운 환경에서 성장하며 접근하기 힘든 반항 심리를 지니고 있지만 누구보다도 진심 어린 애정과 관심을 가져줄 사람을 기다리고 있다. 또한 이들은 주위에 마음을 열어놓거나 의지할 대상이 흔치않다는 것을 이미 깨달아 버렸다. 그러나 루앤 존슨은 이들에게 꿈을 심어주며 학교의 잘못된 규정을 거부해버리고 스스로 새로운 커리쿨럼을 만든다. 가정의 따뜻한 보살핌이 없이 성장하여 거칠기 짝이 없는 학생들에게 그녀는 밥 딜런의 시와 딜런 토마스의 시를 가르친다. 시험 성적이 천차만별이고 항상 자신들의 실패를 하나의 숙명처럼 받아들이는 학생들에게서 좌절감을 느낀 존슨은 마침내 특이한 교육방식을 고안해내 학생들의 관심을 이끌어낸다. 그러나 무엇보다도 중요한 것은 어려운 상황에서도 존슨이 학생들로 하여금 자기 자신들의 영혼과 잠재력을 믿도록 사랑하면서 힘을 북돋아준다는 것이다.

On June 7th, 1986, Prince celebrated his 28th birthday by performing for a packed crowd at Detroit’s Cobo Arena. The show was filmed and edited for later broadcast in Europe and Japan as promotion for his then-forthcoming 1986 Parade tour, which hit eight countries in less than a month. The Parade tour never officially hit the United States, with Prince deciding to test the show out on audiences in a handful of cities across the country before taking it abroad. Fortunately, videotapes of the Detroit show have been circulating amongst hardcore Prince collectors for years and have found their way onto the internet so you can witness what was arguably Prince’s funkiest tour to date.

키드는 ‘퍼스트 애버뉴’라는 클럽에서 ‘레볼루션’이라는 밴드를 이끌고 공연하는 젊은 혼혈 가수다. 하지만 동료들과는 모종의 마찰이 있었는데, 여성 멤버인 리사와 웬디는 자기들이 쓴 곡을 거들떠 보지도 않는 그의 독선적인 태도를 못마땅해한다. 한편 과거에 음악을 했던 키드의 아버지 프랜시스는 지금은 자신의 실패한 인생을 비관하면서 백인 아내를 폭행하며 그녀의 행복마저 가로막는 자포자기적인 삶을 산다. 어느 날, 뉴올리언스에서 아폴로니아라는 19살 된 아가씨가 성공의 꿈을 안고 클럽을 찾아오는데, 키드의 열정적인 공연에 반해버린 그녀는 곧 그와 사랑하는 사이가 된다. 한편 같은 클럽 무대에 서는 ‘타임’의 보컬인 모리스는 클럽의 사장인 빌리에게 불성실하고 자기도취적인 키드의 노래 때문에 손님들이 떨어져 나간다면서 멋진 여성 그룹을 만들 테니 키드를 자르라고 한다.

On the 3rd of August 1983, Prince played a benefit concert for the Minnesota Dance Theatre Company at First Avenue, Minneapolis. The concert was instigated by Loyce Houlton, artistic director of the long-time modern dance troupe. She had met Prince during the band's dance classes and asked him to play a benefit show. Prince's concert raise $23,000 for the financially beleaguered MDT dance company. The concert is generally regarded as one of the most excited shows he has ever played. The basic tracks of three songs from the concert were used on Purple Rain.

After 4 months of touring, Prince and his band return to Minneapolis.

Prince performs in Passaic, NJ during his Controversy Tour on January 30th 1982. Even in black and white, the Minneapolis-born funkateer exudes purple-ness. Watch him whip this Capitol Theatre audience into a frenzy.

On June 4, 1981 Prince staged a concert at Théâtre Le Palace in the City Of Lights. The show featured seven of the eight songs that appeared on the 1980 LP Dirty Mind as well as a few off his 1979 self-titled LP. The lineup in Paris included André Cymone on bass, Dez Dickerson on guitar, Bobby Z on drums and Doctor Fink and Lisa Coleman on keyboards, as well as Prince, in various stages of undress, playing guitar and handling lead vocals.
