블레미아 폴스 고등학교에서는 인기 있는 학생들만 골라 살해하는 연쇄 살인 사건이 발생한다. 이후 이 학교에 다니는 네 명의 학생 바바라(줄리 벤즈), 보너(대니 스트롱), 마티나(마잔드라 델피노), 슬랩(사이몬 렉스)에게 그 사건을 알고 있다는 내용의 협박편지가 날아온 후 이들은 살인마에게 쫓기기 시작한다. 학교축제가 있던 13일 금요일 밤, 네 학생들은 차를 타고 가다가 갑자기 뛰어든 사람을 친 일이 있다. 당황한 이들은 시체를 물 속에 던져버리고 절대 발설하지 않을 것을 약속했다. 한편 연쇄 살인사건을 추적하는 기자 하지타(티파니 앰버 티어슨)는 사건을 조사하던 중 주인공들에게서 수상한 기미를 느끼고 접근한다. 경찰 도이(톰 아놀드)의 도움으로 주인공들을 미행하며 실마리를 찾아간다. 이와 함께 가면을 쓴 살인마도 정체를 드러내기 시작한다.
