연애 한번 제대로 못해보고 유일한 친구인 반려견과 함께 살고 있는 ‘애플’. 가족보다는 자신만 생각하고 즐기며 사는 철없는 엄마는 ‘애플’에게 질투와 원망의 대상이다. 스페인 휴양지 토레몰리노스에서 열정적인 연애를 즐기던 엄마로부터 연락을 받고 스페인으로 향하게 된 ‘애플’, 그 곳에서 30년 전 그녀를 지금의 연애고자로 만들었던 과거와 마주하게 되고 자신을 괴롭혔던 그 해변에서 모든 걸 극복하고 그녀는 새로운 사랑을 시작할 수 있을까?
Charlotte, in her early 70s, is not a woman to fool. With energy and assertiveness, she leads the family-owned company since the death of her husband. But lately, irritating incidents are piling up: Charlotte gets bumpy, forgets appointments and messes things up. Alone Katrin, the life partner of her son Markus, speaks out, what nobody wants to admit: Charlotte suffers from dementia. But even though she herself feels that something is wrong with her, the proud woman refuses any help. Until the situation threatens to escalate.

Based on the autobiographical notes by Leonhard Lentz the film tells the story of a man who was diagnosed with throat cancer. Besides the progress of the desease this film also focuses on the emotions and insights of the protagonist while being in therapy.
Olga and Ruth become friends. Olga is independent, separated from her husband, living with an immigrant pianist, and teaching feminist literature. Ruth is withdrawn, a painter, possibly mentally ill. Ruth dreams in black and white, sometimes of her suicide. Olga lectures on a 19th-century writer, von Günderrode, a suicide after the breakup of her intense friendship with Bettina Brentano. Ruth's husband Franz encourages the women's friendship, then, as Olga draws Ruth out and the friendship deepens, he becomes jealous. After the women travel to Egypt, Franz has a tirade. Ruth seems crushed between her husband and her friend, and how she responds is the film's climax.
A young Anglican clergyman gets on the night express to London at Edinburgh station and joins an elderly gentleman in the compartment. Gradually, the journey gets under way, during which it turns out that both are apparently secret agents.
