When the film West Side Story was released in 1961, New York's reviled Puerto Rican community gained some visibility and, over time, both in Spanish Harlem and the Bronx, neighborhoods plagued by poverty, drugs and crime, Hispanic identity was reborn and strengthened, thanks to a syncretic and intentionally popular music that eventually conquered the entire city.

The result was originally televised as part of the CBC "Festival" series, and now the session video tapes have been found, restored and re-edited. The great Muddy Waters and his band perform "You Can't Lose What You Never Had" and "Got My Mojo Workin'," the latter with James Cotton on harmonica. Willie Dixon goes solo on "Bassology" and (helped by a little '90s technology) performs "Crazy for My Baby" with host Colin James. It's 1974. Muhammad Ali is 32 and thought by many to be past his prime. George Foreman is ten years younger and the heavyweight champion of the world. Promoter Don King wants to make a name for himself and offers both fighters five million dollars apiece to fight one another, and when they accept, King has only to come up with the money. He finds a willing backer in Mobutu Sese Suko, the dictator of Zaire, and the "Rumble in the Jungle" is set, including a musical festival featuring some of America's top black performers, like James Brown and B.B. King.

One by One, the musicians climb on stage and take their places: B.B. king, Eric Clapton, Buddy guy, Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt, Jimmie Vaughan, Dr, john and Art Neville. Vaughan, standing at center stage, launches into "Six Strings Down," A moving tribute to his late brother, Stevie Ray, whose memory has drawn this group together. The guitarists fall in, each finding a corner of the song to call their own; King plays fills to Clapton's solo, Cray fires off economical, chiming counterpoint to Raitt's stinging slide, and Guy unleashes piercing single-notes bends to answer Vaughan, who's finger-picking the main theme on his battered Stratocaster. Suddenly, the song blasts into the stratosphere, a gorgeous mosaic of clarion guitar tones.

Inspired by the 1993 Grammy-winning album, this historic meeting of superpowers stars the King of the Blues performing duets with a pantheon of fellow legends: Ruth Brown, Albert Collins, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor, Irma Thomas and Joe Louis Walker. 도둑인 마일로와 식당 종웝원인 줄리아, 네 아이의 어머니인 페니, 가수를 꿈꾸는 해리슨, 이렇게 네명은 어느날 우연히 한 버스에 타게 된다. 그러나 운전사가 한눈을 파는 바람에 사고로 모두 죽게 되고 영혼이 되어 한 어린 아기, 토마스의 주위를 맴돌게 된다. 네명의 특성을 모두 갖추게 된 토마스는 주위의 어른들을 놀라게 한다. 경마장에서 도박을 하기도 하고 오페라를 듣는가 하면 공부도 아주 잘한다. 이를 걱정한 부모는 아들에게 정신과 치료를 받게 하려고 한다. 그래서 네 영혼들은 토마스 눈에서 사라진다. 하지만 그들은 토마스가 34살이 될때까지 그 곁을 떠나지 않았다. 그러다 옛날 사고를 냈던 운전사가 내려와 그들에게 죽기직전 하지 못한 마지막 일들을 해야 한다는 말을 듣고 토마스의 육신을 이용해 각자의 삶을 마감하려 한다. 영혼들 때문에 토마스는 혼비백산, 결국 그들을 돕게 된다. 하나씩 천국으로 돌아가고 줄리아만이 남는데 그녀가 놓쳐버렸던 사랑하는 연인인 존은 이미 죽은지 7년이 지난후였다. 그녀는 자신이 죽기전에 해야 할 일이 사랑하는 이를 떠나보냈던 자신과는 달리 토마스가 사랑하는 앤을 떠나보내지 않고 자기 감정을 솔직히 말하게 하는 것임을 깨닫는다. 자신이 할일을 끝낸 줄리아는 만면의 미소를 지으며 천국으로 떠나고 토마스는 앤에게 사랑한다고 고백한다.

Guitar Legends was a concert held over five nights, from October 15 to October 19, 1991, in Seville, Spain, with the aim of positioning the city as an entertainment destination to draw support for Expo '92 beginning the following April. The event featured 27 top guitarists, including BB King, Brian May, George Benson, Joe Walsh, Keith Richards, Les Paul, Robbie Robertson, Robert Cray, Roger Waters, Albert Collins, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. The vocalists included Rickie Lee Jones, Bob Dylan and Joe Cocker. Five 90-minute shows and a one-hour documentary were broadcast. Forty-five countries showed at least one live show. Later, broadcasters in 105 countries broadcast one or more programmes.

Featuring bits about growing up in New York, the material is neither profane nor squeaky clean – but has a slice of life element obviously lacking in the cuddly Carlin of the '60s. There’s a gold star moment of longhaired George mocking a cardboard cutout of the suit and tie version, and so take-em-or-leave-them musical appearances by BB King and Kris Kristofferson. The concerts took place in Harlem's Mount Morris Park on Sundays at 3PM from June 29, 1969 to August 24, 1969. The manifestation came soon after the Watts Riots, and the assassinations of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King.
