세탁 공장에서 일하는 폴은 자신이 누구인지 기억하지 못해 3년이나 궁금증에 빠져 지낸다. 그러던 어느날 아론 완필드란 작자가 나타나 폴에게 초능력이 있는데, 그 초능력을 쓰려면 자신의 집으로 가야 한다는 말을 한다. 그때 홀든이 지휘하는 미국 지하 정부 특수반 소속 대원들이 나타나 폴을 데려가려 한다. 폴은 도망치다 교통사고가 나 의식을 잃고 병원에 실려가는데, 엑스레이 촬영 결과 자신의 다리 안쪽에 쇠붙이가 있음을 알게 된다.
