부동산 중개소에서 일하는 조나단(Jonathan Harker: 브루노 간츠 분)은 카르파티아 산맥을 넘어 노스페라투 드라큐라 백작(Count Dracula: 클라우스 킨스키 분)의 성에 다녀올 것을 요청받는다. 정확한 체류일자를 알 수 없는 긴 여정일 뿐아니라, 아직까지도 귀신을 믿는 사람들이 살고 있다는 펜실베니아 마을의 드라큐라 성. 며칠 전부터 알 수 없는 악몽과 불안에 시달린 아내 루시(Lucy Harker: 이사벨 아자니 분)의 만류에도 불구하고 조나단은 드라큐라 백작의 성으로 향한다. 가는 도중, 만나는 이들은 모두가 가지말 것을 권하고 여인숙 주인의 아내가 그에게 준 책에는 드라큐라 백작에 대한 온갖 으시시한 얘기들이 나온다. 그러나 그는 결국 그곳에 도착하여 백작에게 피를 빼앗기고 갇히는 몸이 된다. 한편, 드라큐라 백작은 흑해를 건너 조나단의 아내 루시가 살고 있는 마을에 침입하고 조나단 부부와 마을은 드라큐라 노스페라투의 저주와 그에 대한 두려움에 휩싸이게 되는데.
