뉴욕 맨하탄 뒷거리에 사는 토미(Tommy Larson: 에릭 에간 분)와 두 친구는 못된 짓을 일삼고 다니는 학생 건달 비니(Vinnie: A.J. 다마토 분) 일당에게 늘 고롭힘을 당한다. 비니 일당을 어떻게 골탕먹일까 골몰하던 토미는 어느날 비니 일당의 행각을 비디오로 촬영해 경찰에 넘긴다. 이에 분노한 비니는 갱두목 빅 모우(Big Moe: 멕 포스터 분)에게 부탁해 자신의 일당을 경찰에서 빼내고 토미와 친구들을 갱단의 아지트에 감금한다. 다행히 갱단의 아지트에서 토미와 친구들은 구사일생으로 도망친다. 하지만 빅 모우는 비니에게 그들을 살해할 것을 명한다. 토미와 그 친구들은 결국 권총으로 살해된다. 그 때 토미와 그 친구들이 곤경에 빠졌을 때 늘 도와주던 전직 경찰관 수마트라(Mr. Sumatra: 줄리어스 해리스 분)는 그들의 목을 잘라 마법의 힘으로 그들의 머리만을 회생시켜 주는데...

어머니가 도시로 돈 벌러 떠나버리자, 여고생 마리는 폐차가된 버스 안에서 홀로 살아간다. 가끔씩 찾아오는 어머니의 애인 잭에게 겁탈을 당하는 마리. 거칠게 저항을 해 보기도 하지만 번번히 속수무책이다. 결국 그녀는 자신을 지키기 위해 권총을 구하게 되고, 사격 연습으로 무료함을 달랜다. 한편 마리는 우연히 폔팔을 하게 되고 찰리라는 죄수와 사귀게 되는데, 그가 출감하던 날 또 다시 잭이 찾아와 그녀에게 몸을 요구한다. 그러나 숨겨놓은 권총으로 그를 사살해 버린 마리는 찰리에게 이 모든 사실을 말한다. 곧 그들은 보안관을 따돌리고 집을 떠나지만, 끈질긴 보안관의 수사망은 점점 좁혀 오기 시작하는데.
