드디어 행동개시를 결신한 줄리아노는 우선 아스파뉴와 함께 포도주 배달을 가장하여 유치장을 습격, 테라노바, 파사템포를 선두로 하는 산적들을 해방시키고 친구가 될 것을 권유한다. 며칠 후 산에서 기다리는 줄리아노와 아스파뉴에게 테라노바와 파사템포가 많은 부하들을 거느리고 나타난다. 훔친 금을 3등분 하기로 합의, 이렇게 해서 줄리아노를 리더로 하는 의적단이 생겨난다. 줄리아노는 열차를 습격, 군대의 금을 뺏어 조반나에게 금을 건네주며 농민이 토지를 살 수 있는 자금으로 쓰도록 한다. 쥴리아노의 강탈은 계속되고 시실리의 많은 사람들의 추앙을 받게 된다. 쥴리아노의 결혼식날 어떤 밀고자에게 의해 경찰의 급습을 받지만 탈출에 성공, 1천만 리라의 상금이 걸린 현상범으로 경찰의 추격을 받게 된다. 하지만 믿었던 동지의 배신으로 거리 한가운데에서 돈 마지노 크로체가 보낸 자객에 의해 암살되고 만다.
Otello Morsiani, a north-eastern-italian lawyer, takes the job of estimating land holdings on the Po Delta, which are intended to be expropriated to make way for a national park. The lawyer soon discovers that in that area, once target of methane extraction, the soil is now at risk to sink, due to hydrogeological disturbance: in the meanwhile, he also digs out a mystery tied to a death dating back twenty years before.
