소설가인 아버지의 모습을 보고자란 소년 이치야. 팔리지 않는 소설을 쓰는 작가 아버지였지만 아버지는 항상 행복해 보였고 그의 어머니 또한 아버지를 지지해주었다. 그런 아버지의 영향으로 이치야는 어릴 적부터 소설을 쓰게 되었고 중학생 때 작가 데뷔를 하게 된다. 하지만 자신의 글이 SNS에서 혹평을 받게 되고 본인 스스로도 팔리지 않는 작가라는 생각에 좌절감을 가지고 지내지만 그럼에도 불구하고 꾸준히 글을 쓰고 있었다. 그러던 어느 날 편집자의 권유로 만나게 된 인기 소설가 시이나. 그녀는 이치야의 동급생으로 안면이 있는 사이였지만 유명한 소설가인 줄 꿈에도 알지 못했다. 시이나가 스토리를 얘기하면 이치야가 글을 쓰는 공동작업을 하게 된 두 사람. 스타일이 다른 두 사람의 공동작업 순조롭게 이뤄질 수 있을까?

하루는 아홉 살이던 2011년, 동일본 대지진으로 발생한 쓰나미에 부모님과 남동생을 잃고 혼자가 되었다. 이후 하루는 고향인 이와테 현 오츠치를 떠나 히로시마 현의 구레에서 숙모와 단 둘이 산다. 어느 날 숙모가 쓰러져 의식불명 상태가 되자 하루는 다시 혼자가 된다. 이제 하루는 무작정 고향을 향해 길을 나선다.

Sachiko lost her parents at an early age and lived together with her only sister Nobuko who worked for a newspaper. The body of a 59-year-old male is found on the banks of a river. The stepson, Kazuo, confesses to his involvement but also implicates his estranged sister Nami. Two detectives, Okishima Keisuke and Kono Kaoru, then travel to the resort district of Beppu to stake out the house of Nami's ex-lover. They feel he may also be implicated in the murder and are certain that Nami will make contact. The detectives now wait.

A mysterious old woman appears before Setsu, who has recently lost her only child in a tragic accident. She says she can bring Setsu's son, Daio back to life. After agreeing to this sinister proposal, Daio returns to his mother, but to Setsu's horror, he is half decomposed and inhuman. To make him human again, he needs fresh human organs. Setsu does everything she can to reincarnate her son, but Daio just turns into a different kind of monster. No one can stop him as he continues to feed his hunger, claiming victim after victim.
