Lisbon, 1938. Mr. Pereira is the editor of the culture section of an evening paper. Although fascism is on the rise in Europe, like in nearby civil war Spain or even inside Portugal itself in the form of Salazar's regime, Pereira only concerns himself with writing bios and translating French novels. Things change after he hires a young writer as his assistant, getting to know also his girlfriend – both opponents to the regime – and reluctantly helps them when they begin to get in trouble for subversive activities. 애인을 찾아 미국에서 로마에 온 노처녀 피비(Phoebe: 숀 영 분)은 우연히 강아지 한마리를 발견한다. 신문에서 그 강아지가 몬데 칼로의 귀부인의 것임을 알고 근처에서 만난 줄리안(Julian Peters: 리차드 루이스 분)과 현상금을 타기위해 몬테 칼로로 향한다. 귀부인의 저택에 도착한 두 사람은 차고 앞에서 여자 시체의 손을 발견하고 질겁해서 도망을 친다. 피비는 놀란 나머지 가방을 차고 앞에 두고 나오는데 바로 이 가방에 시체가 담겨져 또 다른 관광객의 손에 들어가게 된다. 카지노에서 여행 경비마저 모두 날리고 아내가 있는 호텔로 돌아가지도 못하는 닐(Neil Schwary: 제임스 벨루시 분)은 거리에서 가방 하나를 줍게 된다. 그것을 하늘이 내린 기적의 돈 가방으로 알고 호텔로 가져와 보니 여자의 토막시체가 들어있다. 결국 아내(Marilyn Schwary: 시빌 쉐퍼드 분)와 시체가 든 가방을 버리기 위해 기차를 탔다가 세관원에게 적발돼 살인용의자로 체포된다. 또 한 명의 노름꾼 오기(Augie Morosco: 존 캔디 분)는 줄리안에게서 강아지를 사려고 성냥갑에 연락처를 적어준 것이 화근이 되어 역시 살인 사건 연루자로 연행된다. 귀부인의 애인인 알퐁소(Alfonso De la Pena: 죠지 해밀턴 분) 역시 사건 당일 저택에 들렀다가 살인혐의를 받고 체포되지만...

Ten years after the end of the war in Vietnam, four ex-Marines decide to return to S.E. Asia to investigate reports of American POWs still being held there. These four include Roger, whose daughter's just been married, the unemployed James, Mark, who's quit his job at an Arizona roadside tavern, and Richard, recently a patient at a mental hospital. In the jungles of S.E. Asia they discover American POWs but also find out about a U.S. Government plot to keep this knowledge a secret.

Story about a doctor in a Libyan military hospital who is mad, but no-one wants to declare him unfit, and he becomes the captain of a fighting unit. Through him the Germans risk losing a truce with the British, and therefore kill him and give him a hero's funeral.
