The teenage boy, Giuseppe, lives with his mother in Cammarata, a Sicilian mountain village. His father left the family years ago, and has since then settled down as a guest worker in West-Germany and established a family. Under local moral rules, Maria is a so-called "white widow", who must stay faithful to her husband even if he never returns to her again. Maria and the newly arrived young doctor fall in love with each other. Their happiness is frowned upon not only by Giuseppe, but the entire village as well as the distant husband.

This time the "amici" (friends) are just four: Necchi, Meandri, Mascetti and Sassaroli. Nevertheless they are older they still love to spend their time mainly organizing irresistible jokes to everyone in every kind of situation. Mascetti is hospitalized in a geriatric clinic. Of course the place become immediately the main stage for all their jokes. After some jokes they decided to place an ultimate incredible and farcical joke to the clinic guests.

A group of students from the San Crispino school for boys take a holiday in the United States, traveling from New York to Los Angeles. Young Father Don Buro has great difficulty controlling the youngsters, especially trouble making ex-student Peo, and finds himself distracted by the attractive single mother of one of the boys.

In Caro papá, Dino Risi is telling the story of the decadent lifestyle, and dysfunctional family, of a wealthy businessman (played to perfection by Risi's favorite leading man, Vittorio Gassman). Risi paints his portrait against a backdrop of an Italy where the new permissiveness has run rampant, traditional socio-cultural values have been usurped by consumerism, and the streets have become an open battleground for politically extremist groups (the '70s were dubbed "The Years of Lead" due to the great number of terrorist acts, and politically motivated assassinations).

Amedeo and Ofelia, middle aged brother and sister, own jointly an old decadent, but still attractive, condominium. They want to sell it, but before they have to evict all the tenants. Of course, these don't want to leave at all. The cat (Il Gatto), mascot and beloved by all, dies and this gives the two an excuse to enter the tenants' life. Amedeo starts to court the young Wanda and Ofelia seduces the priest Don Pezzolla. In the meantime police is looking for the cat killer...

Francesco Salmarani, a well-known doctor from Treviso, suddenly finds himself with an overdraft bank account as his wife's father has come from America demanding the purchase of a large Palladian villa. Tired of his wife, Francesco consoles himself with Paola and then lets himself be ensnared by the very young and beautiful Mary, who has come as housekeeper and father-in-law's lover. The need to fill the administrative gaps and the dream of running away with Mary lead the doctor to organize a coup against his father-in-law who, linked to the mafia, managed to transfer a large dollar patrimony, stolen from the gang, to the villa. The presence of the boy allows the commissioner to exonerate his son-in-law, Mary and Felegatti, of the death of the old mafioso. However, everyone will be left without the dreamed treasure which will fall to Mary and the son of the Salmarani who flee together.

지아친토(니노 만프레디 분)는 아내, 열 명의 자식, 그리고 다양한 관계의 친척들과 로마 외곽의 무허가 판자촌에 있는 오두막집에 산다. 그는 몇 년 전 회사에서 작업 중 산재로 왼쪽 눈을 실명하게 되었고, 보험회사로부터 상당한 금액의 보상금을 받았는데, 이 보상금이 다른 가족의 눈에 띄지 않게 항상 은밀한 곳에 감추곤 한다. 그의 가장 큰 관심은 자신의 보상금을 지키는 일이다. 반면, 다른 가족들의 관심은 그에게서 이 돈을 어떻게 훔칠 것인가에 집중되어 있다. 어느 늦은 밤, 지아친토는 자신의 여자친구를 집으로 데리고 오게 되고, 그녀와 집에서 함께 살 것이라고 선언하는데, 이를 계기로 가장인 지아친토에 대한 아내를 포함한 가족들의 원한과 분노는 극에 이른다. 결국, 나머지 가족들은 지아친토를 독살하기로 결심하고, 손자의 영세 를 기념하는 점심식사 자리에서 이를 결행한다. 그러나, 지아친토는 우여곡절 끝에 살아 남게 되고, 나머지 가족들을 향한 갖은 복수를 시작하고, 자신의 오두막 집을 시골에서 막 로마로 이주를 할 예정인 다른 대가족에게 판다. 그리고, 어느날 밤 만취한 상태로 집에 불을 지른다. 그러나, 다행히도 가족들은 간신히 불길을 피해 모두 살아 남게 되고, 반쯤 불탄 오두막 집을 다시 고쳐 이제는 (지아친토가 가족 몰래 집을 팔아) 이 집에 이사 올 예정이었던 다른 대가족과 함께 한 지붕 밑에서 오밀조밀 살게 된다. 70년초반 산업화 속에서 일자리를 찾아 고향을 떠나 로마 외곽의 무허가 판자촌에 터를 잡은 이탈리아 남부 농촌 출신의 한 대가족이 하루 하루의 일상을 어떻게 살아가고 있는가를 조금의 가감 없이 적나라하게 보여 주는 영화.
