빙하에 갇혀 있던 상어들이 살아 나와 북극해 바다를 점령한다. 공격적이고 탐욕스러운 새로운 종의 이 상어들은 원주민 사냥꾼들을 비롯해 닥치는 대로 잡아먹는다. 사냥꾼들의 실종신고가 계속되자 북극해 연구를 위해 만들어진 오아시스 기지의 연구원들은 상황파악을 위해 실종지점을 조사하던 중, 상어의 존재를 알게 된다. 상어들은 사냥꾼에 이어 연구원들까지 공격하기 시작하고 마침내 오아시스 기지까지 공격한다. 얼음 위에 세워졌던 연구기지는 상어의 공격으로 해저에 가라앉게 되고 이들의 조난구조를 접수한 쇄빙선은 해저의 기지를 물 위로 끌어올릴 계획을 세운다. 하지만 계속 되는 상어의 공격에 대다수의 연구원들이 목숨을 잃고 데이빗과 연인 트레이시만이 구조되어 쇄빙선에 오르게 되는데...
