Hippolyte, the chef at the small Paris restaurant of the title, is losing his sense of smell - and without that, you can’t cook. Not in France. The restaurant has to close. Guests and customers of the ailing master chef gather for one last fabulous meal. Between courses, personal conflicts are explored and flashbacks flesh out incidents from the lives of the restaurant owners.
A septuagenarian couple are attracted to each other in a retirement home but find the institution and their fellow patients frown on their relationship.
The recolonization of Africa, this time by the very blacks who had to flee it as exiles during the time of the original French occupation, is the theme of this political comedy. Adiza, who has been living well in France, has decided that she will return and buy the plantation she and her compatriots were expelled from, and enlists some unlikely helpers to bring them back into the country and enact their plot. Meanwhile, these "local" blacks are unwittingly accepted by the other landowners as more cheap labor.

음악가 프랑소와(Francois: 제랄드 라빙 분)는 재능은 있지만 상황이 잘 맞지 않아 별로 빛을 보지 못하자 친구 드니스(Denis: 미셀 브랑크 분)와 함께 그리스로 간다. 그리스의 올리브 밭에서 일하던 중 친구 제랄드의 꼬임에 넘어가 무작정 파리로 떠난다. 그러나 파리에 도착하자 그들을 맞이해 줄 제랄드는 나타나지 않았고 하는 수 없이 그들은 거리에서 구걸하는 처지가 되고만다. 일자리를 구하던 프랑소와는 거리에서 알게 된 크리스티앙의 제의로 장물거래 일을 시작한다. 드니스는 그 일에 반대하고 혼자 지하철 역으로 가서 구걸을 하다가 깡패들을 만나 폭행을 당하고 프랑소와가 애지중지하는 기타마저 부서지고 만다. 절망한 드니스는 하는 수 없이 프랑소와의 일에 가담한다.
