When Unni accidentally kills a person, his parents send him away to Chennai where he falls in love with Meenakshi. When their marriage is about to be fixed, Unni reveals his past to her.

Kachra Seth runs an empire of collecting garbage, which is merely a front to cover-up for his other business - drug trafficking. He recruits a select group of people to carry out unpleasant tasks - such as beating someone up, or even killing someone. One of his recruits is Jaggu, who will do anything for a price. Jaggu loves Tina but is afraid to tell her. When Jaggu's mom is hospitalized, he comes to Kachra for monetary assistance, he is assigned to a task instead, and unable to complete the task he is apprehended by the police with the assistance of a librarian, and is subsequently found guilty and sent to prison. Jaggu's place is taken by Rajeshwar alias Raja, who is also attracted to Tina and even rescues her from one of Kachra's goons, Chabiley, and they both fall in love. When Jaggu returns from prison, he finds his mom has passed away, and his sister is missing, believed to have committed suicide.

Govardhan, a doctor by profession, is wrongly accused of bombing a train and is jailed by the British in Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He witnesses sufferings of hundreds of Indian prisoners there.

She thinks Narendran is not dead and everyone is trying to fool her. Narendran's parents want Nanda to marry Unni but he is already in love with Bhadra (Shobana).

Naive and easily impressionable Vidya Bhalla would like her husband to be a dashing hero, one who is not afraid of anybody, one who can easily jump into a fire to rescue someone, one who is strong & romantic. She sees all of these qualities in Shiva Sathe (Jackie Shroff), the son of Havaldar Purshotam Sathe, whose only dream is to see Shiva become a Police Inspector. Vidya informs her dad, Prithviraj, that she has found her dream man, the Bhallas and the Sathes meet and get the couple formally engaged.

Nandini is an illegitimate child who comes to Ooty in search of her father. She meets Joji, a tourist guide, and pretends to be mentally unstable in order to get shelter in his house.

Sukumaran, a budding politician, neglects his wife as he focuses on his career. As a result, their relationship weakens leading to a separation.

Perum Pulli is the story of an innocent youth and his love for his mother.
