캘리포니아의 한 실험실. 닥터 어윈 번즈(Dr. Irwin Burns: 조셉 러스킨 분)가 이끄는 과학자 팀이 수년 째 한 실험을 하고 있다. 이 실험이란 인간과 동물의 호전성이 어디서 오는지를 밝혀내기 위한 것으로, 이 실험을 위해 그들은 몇 마리의 실험용 동물을 만들었다. 그중 하나가 '세쓰(Seth)'라 불리우는 뱀으로, 반은 아프리카의 킹 코브라이며 반은 방울뱀 형태를 한 것이었다. 어느 날, 실험실에 폭파사건이 발생하고 세쓰가 도망친다. 그로부터 2 년 후, 필모아의 한 마을에 세쓰가 나타난다. 마을에서는 매년 열리는 맥주 축제의 준비가 한창으로 세쓰가 나타나 마을의 축제를 공포와 지옥의 도가니로 만들어버릴 줄은 꿈에도 모르는 상태. 수백 명의 무고한 마을 주민들이 부상을 당하거나고, 죽자 닥터 어윈과 번즈와 그의 여자친구, 보안관 조 비들(Jo Biddle: 캐시 팰로 분)은 뱀 전문 사냥꾼인 닉 하시모토(Nick Hashimoto: 팻 모리타 분)를 고용하여 세쓰를 잡도록 한다. 그러나 이 영악한 약탈자는 그의 손길을 피해가며 잡히지 않고 인간과의 전쟁을 벌인다.
