갱스터의 이야기를 다루었지만 액션영화의 전통적인 비장미를 뺀, 코미디와 멜로가 결합된 새로운 스타일의 혼성장르영화. 이제는 사양길에 접어들고 있는 갱 조직의 보스, 웡캄퀘이는 사우나와 가라오케 등을 운영하며 지내다 어느 날 우연히 들른 자그마한 식당 여주인 메이에게 끌린다. 그리고 그녀의 가게 일을 돕기 시작하는데, 문제는 메이가 캄퀘이의 동생과도 같은 부하 렁과 이미 사랑하는 사이라는 점이다. 그리고, 호시탐탐 캄퀘이의 구역을 노리는 라이벌 갱단은 렁을 살해하기에 이른다. 이제 캄퀘이에게 남은 것은 메이를 보호하고, 렁의 복수를 하는 것이다. 이 이전의 갱스터 장르 영화와 차별화되는 출발점은 등장인물들이 독특한 캐릭터라는 것이다. 중년의 웡캄퀘이는 자신을 멀리한 어머니를 향한 죄책감을 가지고 있고, 메이와 사랑에 빠지면서 설레는 모습을 보이는 인간미 넘치는 보스이다. 그를 둘러싼 동료들, 메이의 가게 식구들 역시 어딘가 허술하고 뭔가 부족해 보이는 인물들뿐이다. 상대방을 힘으로 제압하는 전형적인 갱스터에서 메이의 가게를 돌보는 월급쟁이와 같은 신세가 되지만, 의외로 그들은 이를 순순히 받아들인다. 갱스터영화에서 갱스터들의 미래는 늘 암울했다. 그들의 결말은 늘 비극으로 끝나기 마련이었다. 에서도 웡캄퀘이와 그의 부하들 역시 자신들의 미래가 어둡다는 사실을 잘 알고 있다. 때문에, 그들은 폭력을 내려놓고 평범한 행복을 찾으려 한다. 감독 리포청은 이러한 이야기를 코미디와 멜로의 장르적 관습과 결합시킴으로써, 현실과 판타지의 경계를 적절히 아우르고 있다.

Bowl (Kenny Kwan) and Noodle (Steven Cheung) are two idle high school students who need to evade at least three menaces each day before they can get to school. There is nasty little neighbourhood bully Razor (Cheung Tat Ming) who chases them over every minor dispute, uniformed policeman David (Tats Lau) who lustily body-searches everyone he sees and small-time hood Ganker (Chan Wai Man) who is constantly on the lookout for new blood to replenish his ever shrinking gang. Pride and dignity seem so out of reach. If only they can find the guiding light to fame and fortune, then life will be rosy again. Some dreams do come true. Trying to stay ahead of Razor, Bowl and Noodle inadvertently join Ganker' s gang and end up at a gangster conference where the Boss (Ray Lui) gives them $300,000 to perform a Mission of Glory at 6am the next day. To Bowl and Noodle, this is a fortune and a shortcut to fame, but a deadly mission awaits them.

Gay fashion designer Yiu Chun Man (Ekin Cheng) is visited in Hong Kong by his straight twin brother, Yiu Chun Kit (also Ekin Cheng). Kit borrows his brother’s driver’s license, and is then involved in a car crash in which a woman dies (see also Ab-normal Beauty), and Kit falls into a coma. With no ID card, Man is unable to prove his identity, so he assumes the identity of his brother, and takes up with Kit’s girlfriend, Jane, (Charlene Choi), and goes with her to Thailand. Jane, however, is having some money problems, and is deeply indebted to a loan shark (Dayo Wong), who pursues Man and Jane. Kit comes out of his coma and finds himself struggling to fend off the amorous advances of Man's boyfriend (Jan Lamb), who is a high-ranking Hong Kong police officer.

The Attractive One is a well-paced, delightful, romantic comedy. It is light, deliberately goofy, but that doesn't prevent it from being a heartwarming story of oddballs falling in love and avoiding admitting it.

There is a bit of "comedy" as Rose confuses Ekin with her former lover and Gillian become jealous. A lot of time is wasted with this Three's Company-style shtick until eventually, some shred of a conflict comes forward, as the girls must battle a former protege of Rose who has taken to kidnapping to pay the bills.
