{수나라 말년, 천하가 어지러운 틈을 타, 영웅들은 천하를 다투었다. 동도에 위치한 반란군 왕실충은 정왕이라 칭했으며, 백성들은 폭정에 시달렸다. 이사명 군대가 황하까지 왔는데.} 때는 수나라 말엽. 천하가 혼란에 빠지고 군웅할거의 시대의 전개된다. 수나라의 장수 왕 세충이 동도에서 반란을 일으키고 스스로 정왕이 되어 양민을 탄압하자, 이세민 역시 군사를 이끌고 왕세충을 토벌하러 나선다. 이 무렵 소호의 아버지가 왕세충의 부하 장수인 왕인측에 의해 살해되고 소호는 간신히 탈출하여 소림사에 들어간다. 나중에 사부가 될 분과 젊은 승려들의 극진한 간호로 회복되고 소림사에 입문한다. 소호는 절연이란 법명을 받고 열심히 소림무공을 배운다. 그 와중에서 절연은 사부의 딸인 백무하와 사랑이 싹튼다. 허나 뜻하지 않게 왕인측에게 쫓기는 이세민을 돕는 바람에 소림사가 위기에 봉착한다. 사부는 절연과 백무하를 떠나보내고 왕인측 일당과 사투를 벌이지만 결국 화살에 맞아 죽는다. 때마침 절연과 백무하는 이세민이 군사들을 동원하여 반군들을 무찌른 소식을 전해주러 왔다가 사부가 죽은 걸 보고 분연히 일어나 왕인측과 사투끝에 그를 죽인다. 이로써 아버지와 사부의 원수를 동시에 갚고 불제자로 돌아간다. {당 정관 초년에, 당태종 이사명은 소림승도 13명의 정의로움을 표창하여 후한 녹을 내렸으나, 소림승려들은 거절해, 수년에 걸쳐 논밭 40경을 하사하였다. 당태종은 소림사 내의 병영을 허락하고, 승려들을 보호했다. 이때 이사명의 이름을 넣어 비석을 세웠는데, 현재도 보존되어 있다. 이때부터 소림 승려들은 무술 연습 기풍을 성행시켜, 소림 무술을 널리 그 이름을 떨치게 했다.}

Yang Mengchi is a spoiled, rich do-nothing whose habit of smoking opium has cost him his entire fortune and the family mansion, the Garden of Repose, now due to be sold to Yao Guodong. Fearing that Yao's spoiled and unruly son Siaofu will follow in Yang's footsteps, Yao's stepwife Wan Zhaohua tries to instil discipline in the child but her efforts are undermined by the child's indulging and protective father and grandmother. Unable to reform himself despite his own son's chastisement, Yang leaves home to lead a reclusive life in a destitute temple, only helped out by his filial daughter Han'er. The poverty-stricken Yang is drafted into the army and tragedy ensues.

Hotelier Pak Kam-lung meets Cheung Yuk-neong on a ship travelling to Hong Kong. In Hong kong, Kam-lung searches for Yuk-neong's whereabouts and throws a costume party to lure Yuk-neong. He finally meets Yuk-neong again but she is cool towards Kam-lung. In order to get close to Yuk-neong, Kam-lung disguises himself as a hotel attendant. Meanwhile, the gentleman-thief Yu Yat-chi is attracted by Yuk-neong's diamond brooch. Yat-chi poses as a banker to get close to Yuk-neong. He lures Yuk-neung to his hideout by falsely claiming that her father is hurt in hospital. Yuk-neung is kept prisoner in an attempt to force her father to hand over the diamond brooch. Kam-lung puts on a female disguise to penetrate the hideout to save Yuk-neong. His disguise is seen through by Yat-chi, but fortunately, the police is alerted in time. The bandits are arrested. Finally, Kam-lung and Yuk-neong are married.
