아쿠타가와 류노스케의 동명 단편소설을 원안으로 삼고 있다. 원작은 가족들의 생계를 위해 유곽에서 매춘을 하는 송금화가 매독에 걸리지만 예수라고 착각한 닮은 꼴의 외국인을 손님으로 맞이하면서 병이 나았다고 믿게된다는 이야기를 다루고 있다. 영화에서는 아쿠타가와 류노스케를 모델로 한 소설가 오카가와 류이치로가 신문사 시찰단원으로 중국에 가게 되면서 유곽의 금화를 만나서 사랑을 나누는 이야기를 중심으로 그려내고 있다.

Judging by her lavish home, a model is making a fortune doing TV commercials. When her boyfriend/boss comes over and tries to get romantic, the model begins seeing weird and scary visions. Visions of blood flooding her floor, and a three year old boy ghost. It seems that, three years earlier, she was pregnant and caught her husband athletically knocking off a blonde. Husband kicked her down the stairs, which causes her to abort. The ghost is evidently the aborted baby grown up. Back to the present day, hubby has teamed up with a new girl, and is trying to get back into the house and kidnap the boy ghost.

A blundering Hong Kong police inspector, Ma Yu Long, goes under cover to investigate a high-class businessman, Teng Kuo Chiao, who was bribing city planning officer Ma Yu Yu to build roads to suit his needs and is suspected to be liable in Yu's death. In the meantime, Long courts Yu's high school sweetheart, Julia, who wants the inspector to cheat Chiao out of some money as part of the revenge deal.

Yuppie ad-man Leung Foon separates from his wife Ann, tries to get back together with his former girlfriend and flirts with his woman boss, but finally realizes that he was much better off where he started. SL -A comedy starring Lawerence Cheng Dan-Sui in his familiar role as a beleagured male. Leung Foon (Cheng) is having marital problems with his wife (played by Dodo Cheng). The movie shows in a humorous way how misunderstandings can lead a couple to the brink of divorce. Very entertaining. Highly recommended. 85 out of 100. Also known as The Yuppie Fantasia.

2천년전 신들에게 패하여 지하에 영원히 묻히게 된 지옥왕은 복수심을 불태워오며 정의로운 기운이 약해져가는 인간세상을 지배하기위해 부활을 꿈꾼다. 지옥왕의 부활을 뒷받침하기위해 지옥의 성녀인 아수라와 지옥의 사자인 라가는 인간세계의 정의로운 기운이 쇠한 특정지역에 나타나 지옥왕을 부활시키기위한 물밑작업을 벌인다. 인간세계로 통하는 4개의 지옥문주변에 요괴들이 출현하게 될 사실을 이미 감지하고 있는 티벳의 고승 고봉대사와 일본의 고승 자공대사는 각각 자신들의 제자들인 공작과 길상을 보내 요괴들과 대적하도록 지시한다. 이들 두 제자는 수십년전 지옥왕을 숭배하는 마교의 한 부하의 쌍둥이 형제로 이 사실을 서로 모른채 요괴의 출현장소인 일본의 한 백화점 내 전람회장에서 만나게 된다. 요괴가 출현하는 백화점으로 출동한 공작과 길상은 듣기만했던 요괴의 출현을 목격하고 그들에게 대항하게 되는데, 이 때 알게된 백화점 여직원인 오카다는 공작과 길상에 몸을 의지하고 요괴를 물리치기 위한 싸움에 합류하게 된다. 계속해서 발생하는 의문의 살인사건을 찾아나선 공작과 길상은 제 4지옥문이 있는 홍콩으로 출동하게 되고, 홍콩의 한 빈민촌에서 발견한 지옥문에 들어간 공작일행은 인간의 피를 빨아먹으며 흉측한 요괴로 변신한 라가와의 혈전을 치르게되고 선량한 본모습을 지닌 지옥의 성녀 아수라에게 마음을 빼앗긴 공작은 아수라를 살리기 위해 티벳에 있는 사부 고봉대사에게 아수라를 데려간다. 미래의 위험을 감수하며 어렵게 아수라를 살려낸 고봉대사는 마교의 부하로 지내왔던 지난 세월을 공작과 길상에게 고백한 뒤, 지옥왕을 숭배하는 마교의 교주지시로 공작을 없애러 온 쿠비라에게 살해된다. 사부의 죽음에 충격을 받은 공작은 복수를 위해 쿠비라일행과 대적하지만, 중과부적의 열세를 면치못하고 위기에 빠진순간, 길상의 사부인 자공대사가 나타나 이들을 도와 대적한다.

홍콩 경찰청 강력계 소속인 악바리(성룡 분)와 위키(원표 분)는 엄청난 액수의 보석을 가로채 야쿠자와 접선하기 위해 일본으로 달아난 전직 경찰을 체포하라는 특명을 띠고 일본으로 건너 가지만 벽에 부딪치자 홍콩으로 연락, 경찰 총경에게 부탁해 지난 날 같은 고아원 출신인 양배추(홍금보 분)의 도움을 청하게 된다. 양배추는 완두콩(증지위 분) 등 고아원 형제들을 규합, 여행사 직원 여왕벌(호혜중 분)과 함께 일본으로 건너가는데 여왕벌의 미모에 반해 갖가지 촌극이 계속 연출된다.
