In 1916, Robinson was a successful vaudeville performer and considered the finest tap dancer of his generation. At the peak of his career, he was the highest paid Black entertainer, but for all the joy he gave others, his life was anything but happy, there was a great deal of tragedy in himself. He died broke and penniless.

Two estranged half-brothers, Billy and Torch, reconnect during a brief jail stay. 20/20 Mike concocts a scheme in which the two of them will steal dope from some young couriers. The heist goes wrong when Billy shoots the couriers dead. They hole up in an abandoned building, and 20/20 Mike seeks help from an old cell mate, Tony.

From 1979 to 1981, 29 African-American males, mostly children, were either missing or found murdered in metro Atlanta. The cases plagued the city until 1982, when Wayne Wiiliams was convicted of the murders of two adult men. Authorities then considered the other cases closed. Some of the parents of the slain children were critical of the way the cases were handled and believed there was some sort of cover up. Nearly four years after the conviction of Williams, "Spin" magazine editor Ron Larson and reporter Pat Laughlin come to Atlanta in search of the truth.

미시시피 남부지역에서 수명의 흑인 갱단이 금괴로 가득한 가방을 가진 백인 갱단을 살해하면서 이야기는 시작된다. 동시에 출동한 경찰과의 총격전 중 흑인 갱단의 일원인 이마벨은 훔친 금괴를 가지고 할렘가로 숨어든다. 이마벨은 그녀가 숨을 만한 장소를 물색하던중 어수룩하고 순진하게 생긴 할렘의 장의사 잭슨이 적당한 인물이라고 판단, 그에게 의도적으로 접근한다. 영문을 모르는 잭슨은 순진하게 이마벨의 마수에 걸려들고 그녀를 사랑하기에 이른다. 같이 금괴를 훔친 일당들 또한 금괴를 가지고 도망간 이마벨을 찾아 할렘으로 숨어들고 잭슨의 행복한 나날들은 깨진다. 이 와중에서 잭슨은 이마벨 일당에게 가진 돈을 몽땅 사기당하지만 그런 사실엔 아랑곳하지 않고 사라진 이마벨을 찾아 나선다. 그러면서 잭슨은 근 10년 동안이나 의를 끊고 살던 의붓형 골디의 절대인 도움을 받기에 이른다. 그러나 골디가 잭슨을 도와준 것은 동생을 위해서라기 보다 이마벨이 갖고 있는 금괴를 손에 넣을수 있다는 얄팍한 계산 때문이다. 한편, 너무 순진하게 자신을 찾아다니는 잭슨을 보고 이마벨 또한 서서히 애정을 느끼게 된다. 이마벨, 잭슨과 골디, 경찰등이 얽혀 쫓고 쫓기는 한바탕의 소동 끝에 골디는 꿈에 그리던 거금을, 경찰들은 흑인 갱단을 소탕하기에 이르는데, 마지막 순간 이마벨이 다른곳으로 떠난 것을 안 잭슨은 앞에 놓인 모든 물질적 부를 팽게 치고 사랑하는 이마벨이 있는 기차에 뛰어 오른다.

Eubie! began life as a Broadway musical, celebrating the life and work of legendary black entertainer/composer Eubie Blake. This taped version was specially prepared for cable TV in 1981, then released on videocassette a few years later. Gregory and Maurice Hines head the exuberant, toe-tapping cast. Among the highlights are such Blake standards as "I'm Just Wild About Harry". The race issue is brought into play every once in a while, but never in such an omnipresent fashion as to dampen the spirits of this sparkling example of Broadway at its best.

The story of legendary jazz bassist Milt Hinton and tap dancer Charles "Honi" Coles offers a front row seat to the creation of Jazz History. The film includes rehearsals, practice sessions, photographs, historical film footage, as well as a lunch break interview at New York's China Song restaurant in which the artists discuss everything from the mathematical principles of music to the dance acts who played the Apollo. However, WOLFEN (1981), his only other major motion picture, was. After that he would never complete another feature film again. This is the story of that film.
