Squanto is a high-born Indian warrior from a tribe on the Atlantic coast of North America which devotes its life to hunting and rivalry with a neighboring tribe. Everything changes forever after a ship arrives from England, prospecting the region's commercial potential for the rich Sir George, who uses all his wealth and influence only for ever greater profit. When it returns, several Indians find themselves captives on board, including Squanto. The arrogant Christians consider themselves utterly superior to the 'heathen savages' and treat them as brutally as they do beasts. Squanto fights a bear in a circus, not understanding how men can be so cruel to that creature either, and manages a spectacular escape, but where must he go? He finds shelter and help in a rural monastery, where it takes his protector some effort to prevent the others considering the unknown as diabolical. 10대 소년 잭은 북미에서 가족들을 위해 금광을 개발하다가 돌아가신 아버지의 금광 채굴권을 찾아 혼자서 유칸 지방으로 들어간다. 그곳은 금광 열기로 온 세계 사람들이 몰려와 온갖 범죄가 무난하던 곳이었다. 여비까지 날치기 당한 잭은 다행히 아버지의 친구 알렉스를 만나 함께 개썰매를 이끌고 금광지대로 가게된다. 설원에서 어미를 여읜 새끼 늑대를 본 잭은 혼자 살아 남을 수 있을까 염려 하는데 마침 지나가던 인디언이 그 늑대를 데려다 흰 송곳니 이름을 따서 '화이트 팽'이라 이름짓고 키우게 된다. 그러나 늑대는 커가면서 용맹을 더해가서 인디언 추장을 따라 시내를 나갔다가 투견을 업으로 하는 사내의 개를 물어 보상금 시비가 벌어진다. 사내가 늑대를 달라고 하는 바람에 추장은 하는수 없이 늑대를 건네주고 만다. 투견을 하던 늑대는 처음엔 싸움에 이겨 돈을 많이 벌어 주지만 나중에 불독과 싸우다 목을 물려 위기에 빠진다. 물자를 사러 시내에 나왔다가 이광경을 본 잭은 띄어들어 늑대를 구해낸다. 알고보니 투견꾼 사내느 잭의 돈을 날치기한 사기꾼이었다. 이때부터 잭은 사나워진 늑대를 다시 사랑으로 돌보며 친구로 삼는데 성공한다.

50년대 로큰롤 스타 제리 리 루이스의 일대기를 다룬 전기영화. 백인이면서 어려서부터 흑인음악에 관심이 많았던 제리 리 루이스는 경쾌하다 못해 시끄러울 만큼 열정적으로 피아노를 두드리며 노래했던 초기 로큰롤의 스타다. 육체적 리듬과 쾌락에 충실한 록음악을 악마의 음악으로 간주했던 50년대에 전성기를 구가한 그의 음악과 삶을 경쾌한 리듬으로 잡아냈다. 가수 이승환이 그를 소재로 (제리 제리 고고)란 노래를 부르기도 했는데, 가사에도 "불타는 피아노"가 나오지만 연주 후 피아노에 불을 지른 사건은 유명하다. 미성년자인 사촌 마이라와의 결혼으로 언론의 비난을 사고 음악적으로 몰락하기까지 흥망성쇠를 카메라에 담았다. 의자에서 일어나 피아노 앞에서 구르고 뛰면서 미친 듯이 연주하는 루이스로 분한 데니스 퀘이드의 연기는 손색이 없고, 루이스의 히트곡과 초기 로큰롤 사운드는 어깨를 들썩이며 향수를 자극한다. SF, 코미디, 스릴러의 다양한 장르를 통해 인간 삶에 대한 애착을 보여준 짐 맥브라이드가 이번에는 음악영화의 형태를 빌렸다
