A decade has passed in the small town where the original Sandlot gang banded together during the summer of ’62 to play baseball and battle the Beast. Now comes the sequel, a campy romp back to the dugout where nine new kids descend on the diamond only to discover that a descendant of the Beast lives in Mr. Mertle’s backyard--a monster of mythical proportions known as "The Great Fear."

This made-for-TV film version uses the title and general premise of Jules Verne's novel, but had its heroes carry out the journey in an earth-penetrating machine. A television series was supposed to follow, but was never produced. Cast includes John Neville, F. Murray Abraham and Kim Miyori.
Screenplay
공을 던질 줄도 모르고 그 유명한 야구선수 베이브 루스는 더더욱 알턱이 없는 천하의 샌님 스콧이 어느날 야구장에 나타난다. 잘 나가는 동네 야구팀 '히터스'의 아이들은 스콧을 놀려대느라 야단법석. 그중 하나, 선수 못지 않은 실력을 가진 로드리게스가 나서서 그를 때마침 자리가 빈 좌익수 자리에 넣어주고 야구의 기초부터 가르쳐준다. 유난히 무덥던 어느날, 아이들이 생기를 잃고 있을 때 스콧이 홈런을 쳐내는 사건이 일어난다. 그러나 기쁨도 잠시, 공이 넘어간 곳은 아이들을 잡아먹는다는 도사견의 코 앞. 더군다나 그공은 스콧의 아빠가 애지중지하던 베이브 루스의 싸인볼이었던 것. 스콧은 가짜 싸인볼을 만들어 일단 화를 면한 뒤 공을 찾을 작전을 짠다. 녀석을 얼르고 달래고, 건드려도 보지만 아무 소용이 없자 우리의 영웅 로드리게스가 해사로 나서는데...
