A Canadian writer and a Taiwanese teenager meet in a village in the east coast of Taiwan.

Hsin-He, a high school sophomore who can get along just fine on her own, lives with her father. At school, the days pass slowly by, until one day, she is assigned to be the student teacher. Since she loaths math, her teacher orders Ke-Lei, student teacher from another class, to tutor her.

To achieve his dream of being a trumpet player, a man leaves his hometown and works in a touring operetta troupe. He falls in love with a girl but then contracts tuberculosis, forcing him to give up the trumpet.

This is a collection of three films by emerging Taiwanese directors all revolving around the theme of strong, young women involved in mayhem of some sort. In all of them the theme of alienation within the crowded streets of Taiwan runs strong.

타이페이를 배경으로 세 젊은이의 사랑과 고독을 표현한 영화. 부동산 중개회사 직원인 메이, 납골당 판매원인 소강, 불법 노점상인 아정은 우연히 빈 아파트에서 조우하게 된다. 그러나 세 사람 사이에는 그 어떠한 사랑도 존재하지 않는다. 거의 대사가 없는 영화로 인물들의 고독이 극명하게 표현되어 있다. 영화에서 빈 집과 떠도는 주인공들의 감정은 가족붕괴로 인한 고독감을 느끼게 한다. 영화 후반, 메이가 울음을 터뜨리는 긴 지속시간의 장면이 특별한 느낌을 선사한다.

"Door Latch" and his friend followed the KMT army and moved to Taiwan in 1949. They conceal their real name and get many trials and afflictions to adapt the circumstances in that special situation. Yueh-Shiang is a classic traditional woman from China country. For requiting the graciousness of being saved by Door Latch, she becomes Door Latch's wife. She suffers hardship to raise and teach their children without any complains. Door Latch wasn't well educated and can hardly read. However, he uses Yueh-Shiang's late husband's name and diploma to get himself a job. Even though there are a lot of embarrassing situations and he suffers many difficulties, Door Latch survives. Door Latch also looks after his old pal Lee Der-Sherng when Lee loses his mind. However, the KMT government released the restriction to visit Mainland China. They are able to visit their parents and relatives there. Their son finds "their" parents, but bigger secrets will unfold.
