영화 원제인 ‘Komm mit mir in das Cinema’(영화관으로 가자)는 사랑을 영화 속에서 찾을 수 있다고 썼던 엘제 라스커쉴러의 1937년도 시에서 가져온 것이다. 영화를 둘러싼 여러 담론과 관점에 있어서 전후 독일영화의 역사를 크게 확장시킨 에리카와 울리히 그레고어가 함께할 수 있었던 것은 바로 영화에 대한 사랑 덕분이었다.

For over half a century, the filmmaker Edgar Reitz, one of the signatories of the Oberhausen Manifesto and a pioneer of epic film narration, has explored, as a practitioner and theoretician, the rules and limits of cinema, which he always seeks to break and extend in new ways. One example of his tireless search and research are the Geschichten vom Kübelkind, which he co-directed with Ula Stöckl in 1969/70, 22 absurdly funny, subversive and anarchistic short films of different lengths, which consciously oppose all conventions, with incredible success. The films remain unrivalled in their Dadaistic inventiveness.

독일 대표 감독들이 공동연출한 "독일의 가을"은 뚜렷한 플롯이 없다. 이 영화는 다큐멘터리와 극영화 장면들을 혼합하여 1977년 붉은 여단으로 알려진 두 명의 좌파 테러리스트에 의해 납치되어 살해당한 한 사업가의 2달간의 행적을 좇는다. 붉은 여단의 지도자였던 바데르, 엔슬린, 라스페는 그들을 석방시키려는 납치와 비행기 공중 납치 시도가 모두 실패하자, 감옥에서 함께 자살을 감행한다. 이 세 사람은 실제로는 국가에 의해 살해되었다는 믿음이 좌파 공동체 사이에 팽배하였다. 이 영화에는 거장 감독 파스빈더가 당시 독일의 정치적 상황에 대해 어떻게 생각하는지에 대해 논하는 장면들이 포함되어 있으며, 그가 촬영한 장면들은 모두 실제 다큐멘터리 장면으로 느껴지지만, 사실은 모두 연출된 것들이다. 이 영화에는 이 세 붉은 여단 지도자들의 영결식 장면을 촬영한 다큐멘터리 장면들도 포함되어 있다
