영화배우로 성공해 방탕한 나날을 보내던 조. 나이가 들면서 영화계에서 버림받자 해변으로 나갔다가 과거를 회상하게 되는데.... 조는 해변가에서 살던 청소년 시절, 좋아하는 여자 친구가 생겼는데도 옆집 유부녀와의 쾌락을 거부하지 못해 여자 친구도 돌아서고 둘의 관계를 바라보던 절친과도 멀어진다. 그 후 둘의 밀회를 즐기기 위해 옆집 유부녀의 어린 딸을 등 떠밀어 밖으로 내보냈는데 폭풍에 밀려온 어뢰가 폭발하여 아이가 죽게 되자 조는 혼란에 빠져 고향을 떠났던 것. 어린 시절 한 순간의 쾌락으로 여러 사람의 인생이 뒤틀어진 모습. 그 과거를 탈피하지 못한 채 앙금처럼 가지고 살면서 힘들어하는 영혼.
