Former Gulf War hero Rowdy Welles is framed for murder by unscrupulous CIA boss Dick Althorp. As his price of freedom, Welles is ordered to undertake a deadly mission to destroy a nuclear processing plant in a foreign nation, owned by dangerous tyrant Lothar Krasna.

Eleven-year-old North has had it with his parents. They are always busy with their careers and don't give North the attention he needs, so he files a lawsuit against them. The judge rules that North should either find new parents or return to his own parents within two months. Thus North starts off on a journey around the world to find parents that really care about him.

월터(Walter Fielding: 톰 행크스 분)는 룩크롤 밴드의 변호사이며, 안나(Anna Crowley: 셜리 롱 분)는 이혼한 바이얼리스트이다. 이들은 안나의 전 남편 아파트에서 함께 살다가 전 남편이 집에 오게 되자 집을 나온다. 이들은 당장 집을 살돈이 없지만 대부를 받게 되어 100만불짜리 집을 20만불에 사게 된다. 그러나 집을 산 기쁨도 잠시이고 그 집의 문턱을 넘어서는 순간 놀라운 사태를 목격하게 된다. 그것은 집이 산산히 부서지는 것이다. 대대적인 수리를 하면서 소동이 벌어진다.
