인디애나 주 시골에 사는 로린(메리 엘리자베스 윈스티드)은 댄서가 되겠다는 꿈을 좇아 시카고 뮤직 앤 댄스 학교에 들어가기 위해 오디션을 보기 위해 시카고로 향한다. 그러나 제대로 실력 발휘도 못하고 오디션에서 떨어지고 만다. 자신의 댄스 실력에 실망한 로린은 ‘루비’라는 클럽에서 일을 하며 시카고에 남는다. 클럽 댄서들의 춤을 보며 또 다른 댄스의 세계에 매료된 그녀는 자신의 춤과 다르다고 애써 외면한다. 그러나 우연한 기회에 무대에 서게 된 로린은 좋은 반응을 얻는데…. 그러나 클럽에서 스타로 떠오를수록 자신의 꿈과는 멀어져만 가고….과연 그녀는 다시 한번 오디션에 도전할 수 있을까?
