현대 홍콩을 배경으로 서극의 에 버금가는 특수효과가 보여져 화제가 되었던 작품. 임영동 감독의 첫 데뷔작이다. 보험회사 직원은 과거 우연히 만난 적 있는 여인의 죽음을 조사하는 임무를 맡는다. 죽은 여인은 귀신으로 돌아와 자신의 죽음은 자살이 아니고 가까운 친척이 보험금을 빼돌리기 위한 살인임을 고백한다. 인간과 귀신의 사랑이 생겨나고, 가족은 귀신을 쫓기 위해 무당을 부른다.
