Accomplice
In the future (1921), an alliance of several foreign countries plot to attack the US. American officials, coming to the realisation that the country is basically defenceless, offer $1,000,000 to anyone who can come up with a weapon to defeat the invaders. Winthrop Clavering, a writer and inventor, hears of the reward and tells his friend Bartholomew Thompson, a scientist and inventor who has been working on developing flying torpedo. However, enemy agents have also heard about Thompson's project, and set out to kill him and steal his plans. This film is now considered lost.

When he reaches college age he is sent to attend the University of Heidelberg, and really starts to enjoy himself for the first time, even falling in love with Kathie, his only friend during childhood and the niece of an innkeeper. However, political turmoil in Rutania forces him to return. He finds that the only way out of declaring war on a neighboring country would be to marry the daughter of its king--but that would require giving up Kathie, the only woman he's ever loved.

남북의 대립 이전부터 친교를 갖고 있던 북과 남의 훌륭한 두 백인 가문, 스톤맨가와 카메론가의 가족들이 남북 전쟁을 전후로 하여 겪게 되는 사랑과 갈등, 치열한 삶과 죽음의 곡예, 그리고 이들의 정치적 대립과 의식의 변화 과정을 당시의 역사적인 사실을 바탕으로 하여 사실적으로 촬영되었다.
