Scott, and the other four men who had made it to the Pole with him, died on the return trip.

스코트 대장을 주축으로 한 남극탐사팀의 여정과 그 불운한 결말을 그린 다큐멘터리이다. 흑백영화임에도 남극만이 가지고 있는 색감과 분위기, 그리고 추위까지 느껴졌다. 특히 나는 감독 그린 허버트 폰팅의 카메라 구도법이 놀라웠다.
오래된 영화임에도 불구하고 남극탐사팀을 쫓아다니며 거대한 남극을 배경으로 멀리서 그들의 모습을 카메라에 담은 장면은 많은 생각을 하게 했다. 남극탐사팀은 하나 둘씩 남극에서 그 명을 달리하지만 감독은 살아남아 이 필름을 전 세계적으로 알린다.
지금이야 다양한 촬영 기법으로 자연의 신비를 아주 생생하게 노출하고 있지만, 이 영화가 100년 전 영화임을 감안하면 촬영하는 사람도, 보는 관객도 놀라움을 금치 못했을 것이다.
