The film follows a number of people in an apartment building during a night full of dramatic events and entanglements.

Bojan runs a guest house, with economical problems. She decides, therefore, to arrange a big party. If she will go bankrupt, it might as well happen to cheerful music.

Brita moves from the countryside and her parent's cabbage patch to work as a housemaid in Stockholm. The big city overwhelms her at first and she falls in love with a young man. But one day Arvid, an infatuated young man from the old village also comes to Stockholm to express his love for her.

Thomas Hell is an officer in the Salvation Army. He has religious doubts and questions the meaning of his work. He meets Lili, an ex-prostitute struggling to start a new life and he fall in love with her. However, she has a pimp, the boxer Herman, who won't let her leave.

Ulla thinks her husband Billy is boring and starts dating other men. Lillans husband Peter is having important meetings, including girls. Billy and Lillan decides to pretend to be in love, to rouse jealousy of Ulla and Peter.

In the Stockholm archipelago in the 1880s, Carlsson move out to an isolated farmstead to help the widow Flood with the farm. Carlsson has big plans for the island, including having paying guests in the summer but Gusten, the son of the widow, is negative. Plot by Mattias Thuresson.

"With life at stake"- Max is illegal arms dealers and lives with Wanda, a spy for the dictatorship in which they live. She is ordered by her superiors to reveal the actions and members resistance group. The freedom fighter John falls in love with Wanda.

Ingrid Eriksson, a social worker, decides to find out something about the problems facing housemaids and gets herself a job as one at the home of John Willman's family. John's son, Åke, falls in love with her and numerous complications arise before the course of true love runs smoothly.
