여호와의 증인 교회에서 예배 중에 테러가 일어난다. 누군가 교회 안에 화염병을 던져 교회가 온통 불길에 휩싸인다. 테러의 배후를 파헤치려는 남편이 테러범들을 적발하려 하는 동안 아내는 상상하지 못한 공격을 받는다. 자신이 경찰이라고 밝히며 집안에 들어온 남자는 아내를 공포에 질리게 만들고 끔찍한 일들이 연이어 벌어진다. 아내는 남편에게 이런 사실을 알리지만 소용이 없다. 영화의 초반부에 하나님이 아브라함에게 아들을 제물로 바치라고 했다는 성경 이야기가 나온다. 도대체 신은 인간에게 왜 이런 끔찍한 죄를 짓게 만드는가? 영화는 여기에 대한 하나의 대답을 제공한다. 용서의 하나님이 아닌 복수의 하나님이 존재하는 것이 아닐까?
Georgian - South Ossetian conflict, August 8, 2008. Georgian troops are in the main administrative town of South Ossetia – Tskhinvali. While searching for a house, a Georgian soldier hears extraneous noise coming from the underground.
On the flat island of Texel, Marie is a girl who has a vivid imagination who dreams about mountains. She feels oppressed by the strict religious island community and its narrow-minded way of life. Being the only girl in a big and poor family during wartime, she doesn't have much of a choice than to marry Paul, the beachcomber’s son. From the moment a regiment of Georgians are stationed on the island, Marie’s life changes and flourishes. With their film, music, and especially with their inventive, unusual survival strategies and entirely different life style, this isolated group of outsiders and in particular the young soldier Goga opens a new way for Marie. Through them, she realizes all her dreams without fear.
A young filmmaker named Dato has no money to make a movie, so he hangs out drinking and brooding all day in the capital of the former Soviet republic, Georgia. He is also writing a screenplay. Excerpts from his script, shot in black-and-white, are cut into his story. All the stories, including the framing story about Dato and his friends, are interwoven so that they become one long narrative about contemporary life in Georgia.
Nina works in the only small hospital of a provincial town as an OB-GYN. Single and in abstinence from personal relationships, she is unconditionally devoted to her Hippocratic oath. When a newborn dies within seconds of being delivered under her supervision, she is accused of wrongdoings. Under investigation, every detail of Nina's personal and professional life is being scrutinized. Despite the risks, Nina remains devoted to her duty as a doctor, committed to doing what nobody else will.
