South of Italy, XIX century. A couple of brigands are chased in the woods. The man has a bounty on his head and is terrified by everything, while the woman takes care of her newborn. They will be safe beyond the river, where they are going to abandon their son to some gang members in order to run faster. But the woman secretly hides the desire to keep the baby...
A robbery planned by two Arabs. A player, a waiter and an alcoholic woman find themselves racing against time, dealing with daily routine and everything around it. With no room to breathe, the tension keeps rising ,as their stories unfold it brings them closer and they get acquainted. Karim, the young Arab boy who commits the robbery out of sheer hardship, is befriended by Gianni who is a great support and makes him feel less lonely. Irene, the alcoholic woman is convinced that Gianni is the son her husband took away from her years ago. Last but not least is Betty, the young transexual who lets herself get dragged into the underworld, all in the name of love.

Italian filmmaker Antonio Capuano writes and directs the grueling gangster drama Luna Rossa (Red Moon). Aging Tony Cammarano (Italo Celoro) is the patriarch of an organized crime family, but his son Amerigo (Toni Servillo) runs most of his operations. Amerigo is a killer who invites his mistress, Rita (Lucia Ragni), to live in the family house. Meanwhile, his wife, Irene (Licia Maglietta), has an affair with mob henchman Egidio (Antonino Iuorio), who fancies the Cammarano's teenage daughter, Orsola (Antonia Truppo). This leaves Irene to eye her own son, Oreste (Domenico Balsamo), who has taken to self-mutilation. Luna Rossa won the Wella Prize at the 2001 Venice Film Festival.
