평범한 회계사인 다니엘은 개성도, 매력도 없는 인물로 아내 폴린느를 비롯한 남들의 무시를 받고 산다. 어느 날 그는 사촌의 결혼식 사진 촬영 날 아내로부터 불륜 사실을 직접 듣게 되고 이혼 계획까지 일방적으로 통보받는다. 결혼 생활도 회사 생활도 모두 엉망이 된 다니엘의 일상에 회사 사장이자 조직 폭력배 두목인 프랭크가 찾아온다. 일처리를 잘못한 다니엘을 엄벌하러 찾아온 프랭크는 다니엘의 사연을 듣고 폴린느의 불륜 대상인 스칼크에게 복수할 계획을 세워준다. 다니엘은 복수 계획과 달리 실수로 스칼크를 죽이게 되고 시체 처리에 프랭크의 폭력배까지 동원돼 일은 걷잡을 수 없이 커지게 된다.
