Zvee Scooler (December 1, 1899 – March 25, 1985) was a Russian-born American actor and radio commentator. He was born in Kamenets-Podolsky (now Ukraine). He performed in both Yiddish and English, on the stage, television, and film. He is probably best known for his roles in Fiddler on the Roof, playing Mordcha, the innkeeper in the Broadway play and the rabbi in the film version. He appeared as Duddy's grandfather in the 1974 film "The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz". Another of his more notable roles was that of Boris' father in Woody Allen's Love and Death.
He was known as the Grammeister on WEVD, a Yiddish radio station in New York City. Every Sunday, Scooler presented a ten-minute segment on the radio show, Forward Hour, which was news and commentary in rhyme.
He died in New York City on March 25, 1985, at age 85.

자신이 백인이고 천주교인임을 자랑스럽게 생각하고 그외의 다른 사람들에 대해서 지독한 편견을 갖고 있는 피베르는 차를 타고 여행에서 돌아오던 중 교통사고를 당해 차와 같이 물에 빠지게 된다. 유태인 기사는 안식일이라 일을 할 수 없다고 떠나고, 밤이 되어 그는 혼자 먼 곳의 불빛을 찾아 어느 공장으로 들어간다. 그곳에서 어떤 독재 아랍공화국인들이 슬리만이라는 쿠테타 음모자를 묶어 놓고는 심문하는 광경을 목격하는데 그것 때문에 결국 슬리만과 함께 쫓기는 처지가 된다. 그러다가 그들은 우연히 미국 뉴욕에서 파리에 다니러 온 야곱이라는 유태인 랍비와 그의 보조 랍비인 샤뮤엘의 옷을 빌려입고 유태인 구역으로 간다. 야곱 랍비를 기다리고 있던 유태인들은 피베르를 의심없이 야곱 랍비로 알고 열렬히 환영한다. 유태교에 대해서 아무것도 모르는 그가 랍비 행세를 하자니 여간 고충이 아닌데 마침 그의 유태인 기사가 나타나 그를 도와준다. 그러는 사이에 독재정권에 항거하는 슬리만의 쿠테타가 성공해서 슬리만은 대통령으로 추대된다. 피베르는 자신의 딸과 첫눈에 사랑을 느낀 슬리만을 주저없이 사위로 맞아 드린다. 그동안의 작은 모험들이 유태인과 유색인종에 대한 그의 편견을 깨트리는 것이다.

1905년 러시아 우크라이나 지방의 작은 마을 유태인 부락에서 우유가공업으로 생계를 유지하는 테비에는 가난한 삶에도 불구하고 신앙심이 깊은 남자다. 그는 수다스런 아내 고르데와 다섯 명의 딸들과 함께 행복하게 살아간다. 그러던 중 장녀 짜이텔이 아버지와 상의도 없이 양복점 직공을 사랑한다며 그와 결혼을 하겠다고 한다. 전통을 존중하는 테비에는 별로 내키지 않았지만 딸 아이의 의지를 꺾을 수 없는 처지라 결혼을 승낙하고 만다. 그런데 결혼식이 열리는 식장으로 러시아 경관이 들이닥쳐 식장은 수라장이 되고 만다. 러시아 혁명의 바람이 불기 시작했던 것. 우여곡절 끝에 장녀의 결혼을 마쳤더니 이번에는 둘째딸이 가난한 밀본과 결혼을 하겠다고 하더니, 또 셋째까지 러시아 청년과 사랑에 빠져서는 몰래 도망쳐버린다. 그러는 와중에도 러시아의 정국은 더욱 악화되고, 그 여파는 아나태프카의 마을에도 밀어닥친다. 유태인 퇴거명령이 떨어진 것. 결국 테비에를 비롯한 유태인들은 정든 땅을 버리고 미국에서의 재회를 약속하며 마을을 떠나간다.
