해리(Harry: 쥬드 넬슨 분)와 다프니(Daphne: 지나 거손 분)는 백화점 쇼 윈도우의 살아있는 마네킹으로 일한다. 쇼 윈도우 안에서 비싼 브랜드의 옷을 입고 진짜 마네킹처럼 꼼짝도 않고 서 있는게 이들이지만 실제로는 지독히도 가난하다. 해리는 변호사 시험을 준비 중이지만 벌써 세 번이나 시험에 낙방, 허름한 아파트에서 낡은 고물차를 끌고 다니는 신세다. 다프니는 비록 고되지만 배우가 될 꿈을 가진 자신의 이력에 이 일이 도움이 될 것으로 믿고 최선을 다해 일한다. 반면 단지 경제적인 이유로 이 일을 하는 해리는 번번히 규칙(말을 하거나 움직여서는 안됨)을 어겨 고용인에게 잔소리를 듣기 일쑤다. 내색은 안 하지만 해리는 다프니를 좋아하고 있었고, 다프니는 해리를 한심하고 무례한 사람이라고 생각, 조금도 호감을 갖고 있지 않았는데...

Hepburn plays an elderly woman whose house becomes a hideaway for an escaped convict (O'Neal), and the pair strike up an unlikely friendship.

Anthony Cortino lives with his mother in a quiet suburb. His father is dead, and his violent criminal brother is a long way off, in the city, and if Anthony has his way, that's where he will stay.
