Defense attorney Jennifer Garrick acquires a Pinocchio puppet from a condemned serial killer. Her pre-teen daughter, Zoe, mistakes the puppet as a birthday present and grows attached to her new friend. Suddenly, accidents begin to happen to those who cross Zoe. Zoe claims it's her Pinocchio doll but her therapist thinks otherwise. Pinocchio promises he'll behave if Zoe will cut his strings...

얼마전 안젤라(Angela: 아멜리아 킨케이드 분)의 집에서 할로윈 파티 도중 끔찍한 참사가 벌어진다. 시간이 흐르면서 그 참사는 잊혀지고 그저 과거의 화제거리에 불과하다. 남녀 공학으로 전원 기숙사 생활을 하는 카톨릭 계통의 사립 고등학교. 호기심 많고 장난기 심한 남학생 커트(Kurt: 래드 요크 분)와 존(Johnny: 조니 모란 분), 그리고 여학생 다비(Bibi: 크리스티 해리스 분)와 셜리(Shirley: 죠 트릴링 분) 등은 엄격한 글로리아 수녀(Sister Gloria: 제니퍼 로데스 분)의 통제에 불만을 갖고 틈만 나면 장난을 펼치는 악동들이다. 또한 테리(Terri: 크리스틴 테일러 분)는 악령의 존재를 믿고 나름대로 악령의 존재 유무에 대해 많은 책을 읽고 안젤라 집 참사에 대해 연구 한다. 한편 이 학교에는 수년전 참사의 유일한 생존자인 안젤라의 동생 멜리사(별명 마우스, Mouse: 멀 케네디 분)가 재학 중이었고 그녀는 소심한 성격으로 친구들에게 놀림을 당한다. 이윽고 학생들이 고대하던 할로윈 댄스 파티일. 커트와 존, 다비와 셜리는 사소한 장난 때문에 글로리아 수녀로부터 댄스파티 참가를 금지당한다. 그러나 악동 셜리는 특별한 할로윈 파티를 계획하고 친구들을 불러 모은다. 그중에는 멜리사도 포함돼 있었으니. 한편 일행은 파티가 유령의 집으로 알려진 과거 안젤라의 집에서 벌어지는 줄 착각하고 학교로 돌아온다.

파티에서 린다(Linda: 토니 키틴 분)는 우연히 혼령을 부르는 부적판을 얻는다. 처음에는 호기심으로 어린 혼령 데이빗을 부르더니 차츰 부적판의 저주에 깊숙이 빠지고 만다. 이때 주술사 자리 베쓰는 희대의 살인마 발훼이터(The ax murderer Edward Malfeitor: 버크 바이른스 분)의 악령이 가까이 오고 있음을 알리나 이미 때는 늦고 부활한 '발훼이터'는 린다의 몸으로 들어가 린다 주변의 인물들을 하나씩 처참 한 시체로 만들어 버린다.
