The clothing department's floor requires renovation; rather than let the staff sit idle while the area is closed off, the management sends them on a paid holiday in Costa Plonka, a fictional city in Spain. Their hotel and its surroundings prove to be dismal, and the group tries to pass the time by acting on the crushes they have developed for one another in the workplace. This results in disaster, as multiple amorous notes reach the wrong recipients and everyone gets wrong ideas about who fancies whom. Meanwhile, Carlos, the hotel manager receives an unwelcome visit from an old acquaintance, Cesar Rodriguez, who is after Mrs. Slocombe after seeing her passport. He is also plotting a revolutionary uprising and wants to use the hotel as his base.

On vacation at his ranch, western actor Roy quickly finds himself involved with a horse rustling operation and a boy ward of one of the rustlers, leading to the kidnapping of Roy's trick horse Trigger by the gang with a demand for ransom.

E por último, vem o pior: os atuais hóspedes são um grupo de lindas e barulhentas adolescentes americanas que estão tentando escapulir de um bando de garotos liderados por Tony (Bobby Darin), e que estão sendo mantidas em "estado de sítio" do lado de fora do hotel. Relutante de início, Robert logo percebe que esta divertida situação tem tudo para se tornar um dos verões mais divertidos que ele já viveu na Itália.

Nesta comédia de tocar o coração, três casais de amigos, todos em torno dos 40 anos, companheiros de viagens e durante os altos e baixos da vida, enfrentam seus problemas com tranqüilidade. Esta perfeita harmonia é desfeita quando um dos amigos deixa sua esposa para viver com uma mulher muito mais jovem.
