Sebastião Bernardes de Souza Prata, o Grande Otelo, foi um dos maiores atores e comediantes do país. Órfão e neto de escravos, escapou da pobreza para forjar uma carreira que rompeu todas as barreiras imagináveis para um ator negro no Brasil, trabalhando com cineastas como Orson Welles, Joaquim Pedro de Andrade, Werner Herzog, Julio Bressane e Nelson Pereira dos Santos, entre tantos outros. Enquanto a mídia se aproveitava de suas polêmicas, Otelo moldou sua própria narrativa e discutiu o racismo que o assombrou por oito décadas, duas ditaduras e mais de cem filmes.
