Gopher Spinach (1954)

Numa noite de tempestade, o rabugento de bom-coração marinheiro Popeye chega em um pequeno barco ao porto da comunidade litorânea de Sweethaven. Ele aluga um quarto na pensão da família Palito e rapidamente se apaixona pela filha dos proprietários, Olívia. Olívia está perturbada pois fora prometida em casamento para o Capitão Brutus (que é chamado pelo nome original das tiras, Bluto), um encrenqueiro rufião que oprime a comunidade cobrando impostos abusivos para o seu chefe, o misterioso Comodoro. Popeye conta que está a procura de seu pai, o Vovô Popeye, que sua mãe falecida lhe contara em sonho que ainda estaria vivo e morando naquele lugar. Ninguém lhe dá atenção, até que Popeye mostra sua força ao enfrentar um bando de valentões na taverna.

Ferdinando é um touro com um temperamento calmo e tranquilo, que prefere sentar-se embaixo de uma árvore e relaxar ao invés de correr por aí bufando e batendo cabeça com os outros. A medida que vai crescendo, ele se torna forte e grande, mas com o mesmo pensamento. Quando cinco homens vão até sua fazenda para escolher o melhor animal para touradas em Madri, Ferdinando é selecionado acidentalmente.

Roslyn é uma mulher muito bonita que acabou de se divorciar. Ela conhece dois amigos, Guido e Gay, que a levam para a casa de campo de Guido em Nevada para relaxar e esquecer as dificuldades das últimas semanas.
