Derren Brown: Inside Your Mind (2003)

Sondra Pransky (Scarlett Johansson) é uma estudante de jornalismo que está visitando alguns amigos em Londres. Ela vai ao show de mágica de Sidney Waterman (Woody Allen), que a chama ao palco para fazer o truque de desmaterialização. Sondra entra em uma caixa mas, enquanto o truque acontece, surge para ela o espírito do repórter Joe Strombel (Ian McShane), morto recentemente, que lhe oferece um grande furo: a identidade do assassino do tarô. Ele diz a Sondra que o assassino é Peter Lyman (Hugh Jackman), um aristocrata inglês. Sondra e Sid decidem investigar Lyman, mas ela acaba se apaixonado por ele.

He visits New Orleans where he carries out a money trick in front of locals, producing hundreds of dollars at their fingertips before stopping off at New York to conduct magic in front of Orlando Bloom. But the jewel in David's crown is his shot at the infamous The Bullet Catch; a trick which sees a 22 calibre bullet being fired at point blank range directly at the magician who then has to catch the bullet in a small metal cup in his mouth. The stunt is filmed using Phantom Camera technology which shoots 10,000 frames per second so that not a fraction of the action is missed.

We will also get a chance to see viewer videos submitted showcasing versions of tricks they learned on Penn & Teller’s first “Try This At Home” show. 

If you haven't come across Derren Brown before then Inside your Mind is a great introduction to the considerable skills of the only living Jedi Master. His show, Mind Control debuted on Channel 4 in the wake of a resurgence of interest in magic spearheaded by David Blaine. But what Derren Brown does hardly falls into the category of sleight-of-hand--his "magic" is firmly grounded in the workings of the mind and psychology. The result is a fascinatingly mysterious, but definitely not psychic, phenomenon.
