A self-help advocate struggles to put his dysfunctional family in its place.
Manchester, North of England, 1975. The now much diminished, but still dysfunctional, Khan family continues to struggle for survival. Sajid, the youngest Khan is deep in pubescent crisis under heavy assault both from his father's tyrannical insistence on Pakistani tradition, and from the fierce bullies in the schoolyard. So, in a last, desperate attempt to 'sort him out', his father decides to pack him off to Mrs Khan No 1 and family in the Punjab, the wife and daughters he had abandoned 35 years earlier.
In the 1950s, Louise left her husband when their children were still little. She was never heard from again. Her daughter Martine stayed in the small seaside town, where she became a doctor. Martine's daughter, Audrey, a thirty-year-old independent woman, returns to visit her parents. "My beloved child" deals with issues like physical, emotional and sexual abuse, domestic problems, suicide, drug issues, societies responsibility, individual responsibility, post effects/late consequences of childhood traumas. The films is primarily made - and edited - for children and youths, in order for them to understand and put words to abuse.
