1971. Raul Duke - famoso jornalista - e Gonzo - advogado latino - fazem uma viagem até Las Vegas. Lá chegados, consomem ininterruptamente - durante um fim de semana - todo o tipo de drogas. O resultado é a infração de todas as regras existentes na cidade.

Louise Sawyer (Susan Sarandon) é uma garçonete quarentona e Thelma (Geena Davis) é uma jovem dona de casa.
