Dave Skylark e seu produtor Aaron Rapoport têm um programa de TV apelativo sobre celebridades chamado "Skylark Tonight". Eles descobrem que o ditador norte-coreano Kim Jong-un é fã do programa e decidem fazer uma entrevista com ele, na tentativa de legitimarem-se como jornalistas. Enquanto Dave e Aaron se preparam para viajar para Pyongyang, eles têm seus planos mudados pela CIA, que os recruta para assassinar Kim Jong-un.

Actress Myrtle Gordon is a functioning alcoholic who is a few days from the opening night of her latest play, concerning a woman distraught about aging. One night a car kills one of Myrtle's fans who is chasing her limousine in an attempt to get the star's attention. Kuhle Wampe takes place in early-1930s Berlin. The film begins with a montage of newspaper headlines describing steadily-rising unemployment figures. This is followed by scenes of a young man looking for work in the city and the family discussing the unpaid back rent. The young man, brother of the protagonist Anni, removes his wristwatch and throws himself from a window out of despair. Shortly thereafter his family is evicted from their apartment. Now homeless, the family moves into a garden colony of sorts with the name “Kuhle Wampe.”
